Cysts

Cysts are non cancerous bumps that form in the skin. They can appear anywhere on the body but in the foot they can be present for a variety of reasons. There are several types of cysts that can affect your foot ranging from inclusion cysts, sebaceous cysts or ganglion cysts. It is important to determine the cause of the cyst through physical examination and proper biopsy. Cysts should also be evaluated by a provider if they grow rapidly, rupture or become painful/infected, occur in an easily irritated location or bother you for cosmetic reasons. In most cases cysts can be treated with corticosteroid injections or surgical excision.
