Tinea Pedis (Athlete's Foot)

Tinea pedis, commonly known as athlete's foot, is a fungal infection of the skin on the feet. It typically starts between the toes and can spread to other areas if left untreated. The fungus thrives in warm, moist environments, making sweaty feet or wearing tight shoes ideal conditions for its growth. Symptoms of athlete's foot include itching, burning, redness, peeling, and cracking of the skin on the feet. In some cases, blisters or sores may develop.

Treatment usually involves keeping the feet clean and dry, wearing clean socks and shoes, and using over-the-counter antifungal creams or sprays. Severe or persistent cases may require prescription-strength antifungal medications or oral medications. Additionally, practicing good foot hygiene and avoiding walking barefoot in public places can help prevent the spread of athlete's foot.
